| 1976
Altomed was founded in 1976 by Tony and Dorothy
Myers primarily as a supplier of reconstructive
surgery products. While establishing itself as
a specialist supplier to operating departments
the company added ophthalmic instruments and implants
into its product range.
Early 1980's
By the early eighties Altomed was a major supplier
of intraocular lenses and ophthalmic surgical
products to UK eye hospitals. Altomed were the
UK representatives for Surgidev IOL's Medical
Workshop IOL's, Storz, Katena, Sharpoint, Concept
and Asico.
Mid 1980's
In the mid eighties Altomed launched its own range
of instruments with the publication of the first
Altomed catalogue.
1993
In 1993 the second Altomed catalogue was launched
featuring full colour photography.
1998
The late nineties saw the arrival of the third
Altomed catalogue featuring digital colour photography
and a new web site featuring an interactive shopping
facility and news features.
2002
Altomed is the largest supplier of ophthalmic
surgical instruments in the UK and can offer the
ophthalmic professional a full range of instruments
for use in almost all of the ophthalmological
sub-specialties including retinal, keratoplasty
and oculo plastic procedures. In the UK as well
as supplying Altomed products the company also
acts as official distributors for such companies
as Volk, Labtician, Rhein Medical, Jedmed, Medical
Workshop MANI and MST.
2003
Altomed launches the fourth edition of the Altomed
catalogue for the UK plus an International edition,
as well as a PC CD-Rom catalogue Altomed becomes
the exclusive UK distributor for New World Medical
(manufacturer of the Ahmed Valve), and AmbioDry,
a range of amniotic membrane allografts.
A workshop is opened at Altomed which can undertake
MicroWash instrument tray assembly and detailed
customisation of sterilisation trays.
