					<description>Wider silicone strips are now widely used post-vitrectomy to provide buckling. These sleeves are difficult to secure with traditional round sleeves. So we can offer the new Labtician Oval Sleeves. They provide a flatter less intrusive profile when in position.

Another innovation is the arrival of &#8216;Buckling Sleeves&#8217;. Less invasive than a silicone &#8216;tyre&#8217; or sponge the Wong Buckling Sleeves do two jobs in one, securing the chosen band or strip, and providing more buckling than a standard sleeve. The sleeve, developed by David Wong, from Toronto Canada, has an asymmetrical shape, having a bulkier bottom half.

					<description>There are now two models of the Malyugin Ring pupil expanding device. A 6.25mm model and a 7.00mm version.

Boris Malyugin from Moscow developed the product and it is manufactured by MicroSurgical Technology in the USA. Altomed are the exclusive UK dealers.

Dr Malyugin&#8217;s aim was to create an iris ring that provides gentle but significant pupil expansion, which can be &#8216;injected&#8217; and withdrawn through a small incision, in an atraumatic way.

The unique scroll design and the flexible material used, enables the ring to be introduced and removed from the eye using the &#8216;injector&#8217; in which the device is packaged. The Malyugin ring is packed sterile and is ready to use. Unlike iris hooks, no extra incisions are required.

A brand new development has been the release of the Osher/Malyugin Manipulator, which is a useful reusable instrument that can be utilised through a paracentesis incision to help position the ring scrolls during introduction and withdrawal.

Ordering information ;
Malyugin Ring 6.25mm MAL0001
Malyugin Ring 7.00mm MAL0002
Osher/Malyugin Manipulator MAL0003

					<description>The Hans Geuder company have worked with some leading European VR surgeons
to develop a range of intravitreal instruments that feature single-use tips and high quality reusable handles.

This gives the surgeon the feel and smoothness of a high quality metal instrument
with the one-patient-use safety of a disposable. Tips are available in 23G &#38; 20G.

The ColorLine range also includes a brand new single-use Trocar and Port system which features self sealing ports in 20G, 23G and 25G.

The ports incorporate non-slip-out surfaces &#38;
ultra-soft silicone sealing membranes that allow instruments
to be inserted and withdrawn gently without leaks.

					<title>Eye Camp in Ghana</title>
					<link>http://www.altomed.com/news/index.php/a/2009/11/25/eye_camp_in_ghana_1</link>

					<description>During the summer 6 eye surgeons and 8 nurses flew to Ghana from the UK. They were there to participate in the ongoing sight saving project &#8216;Touch of Light&#8217;.

During the two week eye camp, which was based at the Volta regional hospital at Ho, 3677 patients were seen, 202 cataract operations were performed and training was given to local doctors and nurses. &#163;25,000 of specialist eye care equipment was left and donated.

This project brings eye-care and surgery to cure blindness to communities that do not have facilities within reach, due to their remote location and lack of roads.

Altomed helped out in a small way by donating various products for use in surgery, which supported people who really made a difference, - the surgeons and nurses who sacrificed their time and were generous with their skills and knowledge.

More information about this registered charity can be found at HYPERLINK "http://www.touchoflight.org.uk" www.touchoflight.org.uk

					<description>Despite episodes of publicity for throw-away instruments Altomed is finding that demand remains strong both for our reusable instruments and the Microwash tray range.
Concerns surrounding &#8216;throw-aways&#8217; such as environmental issues and their higher annual running costs, as well as the UK governments huge investment in modern CSSD equipment, have made people think carefully about going down the disposable route.
Altomed&#8217;s instruments, most of which are made by craftsmen in the UK, are capable of long service. They are also of sufficient quality to withstand future repair and maintenance. Aftercare and warranty are concepts still very much alive and well at Altomed.

New decontamination methods, utilising new washers, solutions and trays mean that instruments are cleaned and sterilized to a higher level then ever before. Obviously in ophthalmic surgery, hard-to- clean small lumen items such as cannulae and critical devices such as phaco knives are best supplied in a single-use format. Altomed therefore brings you the best available single-use cannulae and knives from Sterimedix (UK) and Mani (Japan).
